About

Hi, my name is Tyler and I love to cook, bake, grill, and pretty much everything in between.  The kitchen has been my favorite room in the house for pretty much as long as I can remember.  I was baking and cooking before I was even tall enough to see over the kitchen counter.  Over the years my love of all things food grew right along with me.

The inspiration for my recipes comes from just about everywhere.  Old family recipes that I’ve tweaked and adapted over the years.  Ideas that I’ve gotten from the countless cookbooks and food magazines that I’ve read.  Restaurant dishes that I’ve tried to replicate.  Ideas that I have picked up from traveling up and down the east coast.  Not to mention the recipes that came about from me simply saying “why not?”

A lot of my inspiration also draws from living in south Florida.  First, there is the endless supply of fresh produce and fresh seafood all year long.  It’s also impossible to live in south Florida without allowing some amount of Latin and Italian flavors into your cooking.  Not to mention one of the major perks of living in south Florida is the luxury of year-round grilling.  I use my grill for just about every holiday and yes that includes Christmas.

My philosophy when it comes to cooking is that: “it’s just not that difficult.”  Often people say to me “I can’t cook” or “I can’t bake.”   When in reality the only thing that is stopping them is themselves.  I have never been to culinary school and have no formal training.  The recipes on this blog were designed by a home cook for other home cooks.  My collection of recipes varies from the quick and easy to the slightly more complex and time consuming.  Here you’ll find dishes on the lighter side, like salads and grain bowls, to dishes on the heavier side, like buttermilk biscuits with sausage gravy.

I work full-time at a university and am a chronic graduate school student, this means I have very little time during the week for cooking.  So, I’ll share with you my ideas for meal kits, make ahead dishes, and fast week night dinners.  My tastes range from the super savory, such as crab pimento cheese dip, to the super sweet, such as brown butter chocolate chunk blondies.  My recipes also span just about every method there is from baking, roasting and sautéing, to frying and grilling.
